Baby Boy Nursery Design Inspiration
I’m so excited to share my design board for our FIRST baby boy’s nursery. I’m due at the end of the summer and we’re slowly piecing the room together.
If I’ve learned one thing over the years it’s always have a plan. I labor over design boards for clients for weeks, why not give my own home that same attention to detail? In the past year I’ve done design boards for our living room, guest room and playroom – and you know what? Those are my three favorite rooms in the house. So point being: if you’re looking to re-design a space, get your thoughts down on paper and make a plan. No impulse purchases!
A couple weeks ago, we transitioned Kingsley out of the nursery and into the big girl room. The girls now share this room and so far, so good! We have a spare guest room, so when the time comes and everyone wants their own room – we have it, but for now I think it’s important for them to share and I’m excited to watch their bond grow!
As a reminder, this is the room before:
And because I’m sentimental AF, I had my friend and photographer, Alea, capture the girls one last time in the space before the big re-design.
The thought of taking this room apart crushed me. I loved this room. It was perfection. But…I’m pleased to say pretty much everything lives on in other areas of our home. The girls have a large, walk-in closet and we’ve moved the rug, toy chest and chandelier into their “dressing room”. The glider and my beloved “XO” artwork is now in the playroom! Ps – I’ll be sharing a full reveal of our new playroom soon.
In the next year or so we’re going to renovate the girls’ bathroom and we’ll use the flower petal mirror above their sink.
The crib, spindle side table and dresser will remain and take on a new look for Baby Crichton.
So let’s get down to business. As a reminder, Crichton’s name comes from the author Michael Crichton, whose most notable work is Jurassic Park. While I’m not big on themes, we do have a couple little dinosaur references in the space, as well as a nod or two to my husband’s love for golf.
I’ll share the final room in August, but until then there are a few things I want to point out:
Accent Wall – the plan is to do vertical shiplap on the wall behind the crib. I love the moody accent wall in our guest room and I don’t get to enjoy it enough. The nursery wall will be seen every time I walk upstairs. I’m looking at various shades of dark green and will report back on the final color. This will be a fun DIY for my husband and Dad in July. Yay!
Artwork – the painting seen above is stunning, but it’s only inspiration for something my friend Hannah Crosby is creating for us. I’ve told Hannah I want the look of Scottish/Irish countryside – not a literal golf course by any means, but something that resembles a place that makes my husband happy (we’re planning a golf trip to Ireland for his 40th). I’m envisioning moody, earthy colors – that’s me pretending like I’m an artist and hoping she can translate.
A little side-note on Hannah. You may remember that we had a rough fall last year. I had a miscarriage and major surgery. At the time, I had never met Hannah – we we were simply friends on Instagram. The first time we met she walked up my driveway with enchiladas. She reached out and said she wanted to support our family during that time and I really can’t put into words what it meant to me. She’s a busy mom of two with her own business. Yet, she took the time to reach out to me during a time when I was barely holding it together. It’s such an honor to have a piece of her art hanging in our rainbow baby’s room and I can’t wait to share what she creates with you!
Rug – impossible to top the artwork, but I’m really excited about this rug. I ordered it last week and it will be delivered any day! I love that it’s masculine, but not your typical blue.
Play Gym – my friends and former co-workers at Project Nursery are responsible for the adorable little dino play gym that will rest on the rug. I was working shop operations for Project Nursery when I designed Kingsley’s XO nursery and I love that they’ll have a hand in Crichton’s room, too. They have the most unique collection of curated baby goodness – check them out if you aren’t familiar.
That’s all I’ll highlight for now, and I have a few other tricks up my sleeve for the big reveal in August, so stay tuned!

So grateful this sweet baby girl has adjusted so well to her new room. Everyday she asks when “Baby Cwighton” is coming out.
