Homemade Play-Doh with the Least Craftiest Mom of All-Time
Alright folks. There are crafty DIYers and then there’s me. I’m the first to admit that I don’t know my way around a kitchen unless it’s picking out backsplash or cabinetry. But this past weekend we tackled homemade play-doh for Bauer’s preschool and well, it was E-A-S-Y.
Ingredients and a step-by-step video below on how to make your own homemade play-do.
How to Make Homemade Play-Doh:
What You Need
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 4 tablespoons cream of tartar (pack your patience while trying to find this in the grocery store. cream of WTF are you hiding?)
- 2 cups of water
- food coloring
- 2 tablespoons of oil
What You Do
- Mix all the dry ingredients in a large pot.
- Mix water and food coloring in a separate measuring cup. Once color has disolved, add oil.
- Silently curse because the tips of your fingers are now green, pink or purple.
- Add liquid to dry mixture and stir well.
- Cook on high/medium until liquid starts to thicken, coming away from the sides of the pot.
- Continue to stir until no longer slimy.
- Wonder how the hell you’re going to get this goo off your good cooking pot.
- Cook until the dough is no longer slimy and nearly impossible to stir without some solid upper body strength.
- Scoop dough onto flat surface and let cool.
- Knead to ensure dough is mixed thoroughly.
- Deliver to happy, super-impressed children.
