One Room Challenge – Week 5
Oh man, oh man. When I signed up for this One Room Challenge I didn’t know I’d spend the month of October in and out of doctor’s offices and kick-off the following month with surgery. But that’s life and here we are. I’m writing this update from the pre-admission wing of the hospital…because good design just can’t wait.
Truth be told, I realized that even in the midst of this chaos I don’t need six weeks to transform a room. If the UPS and FedEx Gods are with me, I really need 14 days max.
The room is 100 percent complete and we photographed it Tuesday! I can’t wait to share it with you. I had a lot of fun playing with texture and mixing soft, antique-looking pieces with hard, modern lines. I’m almost jealous it’s a guest room now and wish it was a space I naturally spent more time in.
Last post I promised you more decor details, so here we go:
Decor Details
One additional decor piece that I added last minute was this luggage rack. It has a vintage-vibe and I wanted this to feel like a guest room without anything over the top or cheesy. I think this is a nice little way of saying, “Glad you’re here. Make yourself comfortable.”
I also want to give another shout-out to Boll & Branch for winning the bedding game. I decided to go with the waffle blanket in Pewter vs. White and I’m so glad I did. It’s the most perfect shade of gray.
Deliciously Soft + Cozy Bedding
The room is teeny, tiny – but has such a big personality between the accent wall and large wall baskets. I also can’t speak highly enough of the piece Arhaus gifted us. The quality can’t be beat – anyone else get as excited as I do about soft-closing drawers? The piece is grand and beautiful in it’s own right, but narrow enough to fit the space well. If you haven’t shopped Arhaus before, check them out- you will not be disappointed. If you’re local to the Atlanta-area, they have a gorgeous store near us at the Avalon.
As a reminder, we chose their Portier Chest.
My goal with this room was really to mix styles. When I look back at some of the rooms in our last home I cringe at how they felt a bit “cookie cutter.” The last thing I want is for one room to look straight out of Magnolia – as much as I love Chip and JoJo. I think you can even see a little of that from season 1 to their final season if you’re a Fixer Upper fan like me. My favorite designs are the ones that have a little edge, a little oversized decor and don’t fit a singular mold.
And in case you missed my last post, let’s all take another second to appreciate this gorgeous bed frame from Soft Surroundings. My personal opinion, this was born to pop off a dark wall. So if you’re thinking of purchasing, grab a can of moody paint to go with it.
The more vintage-style bed and mirror, mixed with the hard lines of the accent vases we chose help balance things out and keep it interesting. Here’s just a teeny-tiny iPhone view of what I’m describing.
I kind of wish I didn’t even show you that…but I’m horrible at surprises, get it from my Dad. Come back next week for the FULL REVEAL! And don’t forget to head over to the One Room Challenge to see the gorgeous spaces being transformed near and far.
